Great approach toward it.

I think some people just don't think it matters. Or they think their pics are good. Anyway, I felt a bit bad about one rejection, so offered to enhance the pic if they wanted to try again. It's now on my pub, with a nice Victorian-style sepia filter over it, which while not mind-blowing, looks better than the grey and drab original. And fits with the Victorian theme of the story. :-)
