Cobalamin. The Facts

Commonly known more widely as vitamin B12. Do you know what it does, where you can find it, and what can happen if you don’t have enough? Read on to discover more

After three decades of psychiatric nursing experience, I have easily become conversant with the facts surrounding Cobalamin. Generally speaking, this is simply known commonly as vitamin B12.

Why is this vitamin so important for us then?

Perhaps you already understand that this vitamin is vital for the human body or maybe not? However (and here is the catch) your body is not capable of producing it any way, shape or form.

This important vitamin is essential in making red blood cells and keeping your nervous system healthy. It is needed to release energy from food, and so that folacin (vitamin B9) can be utilized. Folacin (which is yet another name for Folic Acid) and acts as a stimulant to the central nervous system. It affects chemicals in the brain that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control.
